BLACK LIVES MATTER AT OUR SCHOOLS

January 31, 2022

Hello Vashon Families,

Students, educators, and community partners are gearing up for Black Lives Matter at School Week of Action on Vashon, Jan. 31-Feb. 4, 2022.

“Everyone is Welcome.”

Last year, The Vashon Island School District Board approved Resolution 788 and continues to urge educators, students and families to incorporate the 13 Guiding Principles of the Black Lives Matter movement into their discussions about race and privilege all year long. Each building will have BLM Week in Schools activities this week and our community may follow along with activities from our District “Week of Action,” Link here.

These activities include teaching a Black Lives Matter at School lesson, showing solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement in our attire, attending an anti-racist events in support of racial equity, singing songs that acknowledge our history of oppression and the struggle for justice, reading a book that challenges our world view, making art that celebrates the diversity of our community, listening to the experiences of people who are different from us, and talking with our children about how each of us can work to build a more just and equitable society.

How can we turn a “Week of Action” into a “Year of Purpose?”
